Gondwana Eco Walk 12 to 21st April 2016

This walk will focus on connecting and caring for country. We will walk on amazing properties being revegetated and restored as part of Gondwana Link) - Yarraweyah, Yarrabee, Monjebup and Nowanup, and learn from Eugene Eades, Noongar leader and other environmentalists. See www.gondwanalink.org for more info. We will also enjoy visiting the spectacular coast near Wellstead.

Tuesday 12 April to Thursday 21st April 2016

Day 1 Tuesday 12 April 2016
Departing from Fremantle area leaving 7am (info to be provided prior to day) . Please bring your own lunch, water & snacks for the day. Travel to Yarraweyah farm, near Borden. Set up camp

Day 2 Wednesday 13th April 2016

Guided Walk around on Yarraweyah looking at revegetation, bushland and waterfall. Dam available to swim in.

Day 3 Thursday 14th April 2016
Walk from camp towards Pallinup River and Yarrabee property next to Stirling Range National Park. Bus back to camp

Day 4 Friday 15th April 2016
Walk to Monjebup North Eco-restoration Bush Heritage property. Bus back to Yarraweyah to camp.

Day 5 Saturday 16th April 2016
Pack up camp together. Truck travels about 16km to next campsite at Nowanup property. Introductory walk around Nowanup.. Dam available to swim in.

Day 6 Sunday 17th April 2016
Walkers get dropped off at Monjebup Bush Heritage Reserve for walk through Corackerup Nature & back to Nowanup .

Day 7 Monday 18th April 2016
Bus trip to coast at Boat Harbour near Wellstead for walking near the coast.

Day 8 Tuesday 19th April 2016
Options include : Walk to Corackerup Creek, near Nowanup and back to camp

Day 9 Wednesday 20th April 2016
Art Trail Day – or possible visit to Coast for walk.

Day 10 Thursday 21st April 2016
Pack up Camp, and Travel Home

How to get to Campsite 1 - Yarraweyah  

‘Yarraweyah’ property, south east of the small town of Borden, in WA’s Great Southern, about 450 km south east of Perth. Allow at least 6 hours driving time from Perth.


Directions to Yarraweyah from Perth

Travel from Perth via Albany Highway to Arthur River. Proceed along Albany Highway for approximately 22 km past Arthur River and turn Left onto Robinsons Road towards Woodanilling. Proceed along Robinsons Road to Woodanilling.Turn Right onto Great Southern Highway. Proceed along Great Southern Highway to Broomhill. Approximately 3 km past Broomhill turn Left onto the Broomhill Gnowangerup Road (Gnowangerup is one of the last places to get fuel). Approximatey 29 km past Gnowangerup turn Right onto the Chester Pass Road..Approximately 13km turn Left onto the Borden Bremer Bay Road. After approximately 29km turning left (north) onto the Tompup South Road which is gravel, so please drive carefully. Proceed along Tompup South Road for about 9km and then turn right into Oakdale Road. Proceed for 4km and then turn right into Schmedje Road. Follow for about 3.5km - Schmedje Road then turns left.

Follow for a further 500m to the entrance to the Yarraweyah homestead. The campsite should be sign posted a further 500m or so into the property.


Campsite 2- Nowanup

To get to Nowanup campsite travel by car, travel to Borden.  13km south of Borden, take  the  Borden Bremer Bay Road for about 40k km.. Turn left into Monjebup Road. If you get to the Chillinup Road on the Right you have gone 4 km too far. Turn right at the end of Monjebup Road onto the Boxwood Hill Ongerup Road. Travel 5 km along the Boxwood Hill Ongerup Road and turn Left onto Normans Road. Nowanup is 2.5 km along Normans road on the Right. Look for the red breakaway and Nowanup sign. Follow Great Walk signs to campsite which is near dam about 300m from the entrance.
